The tea and Honey

Concept Boutique, New York City, 750 SF

In collaboration with Thomas Korbau, Solid consulted in the design of The Tea and Honey Store a concept boutique imagined by the owners of The Hamptons Honey Company, with apiaries in Water Mill, NY. The store features local, sustainable honey and specialty teas from around the world, as well as a selection of modern teapots, teacups, and brewing accessories. The design draws inspiration from the honeycomb's geometric form with an eye towards the company’s sustainable principles. Custom hexagonal shelving made from recycled watertower wood, scaffolding planks, and other reclaimed materials forms a honeycomb pattern, with painted lines extending the shapes onto the wall. The use of recycled materials is in keeping with Hamptons Honey’s pledge to cultivate and harvest honey responsibly and sustainably. The mixture of various woods available locally was conceived of in the spirit of “cross-pollination,” and the simple wood and aluminum construction is of the same materials as a A1:I27 apiary. The shelves are finished off beeswax to shine and protect the surface, and to engage the visitors sense of smell for a more all-encompassing experience of the shop. Built-in LED lighting illuminates a handful of the shelves to highlight featured projects and punctuate the overall honeycomb form. Photography by Jirka Makovec.
