SLOW MOVING LUMINARIES
Slow-Moving Luminaries by lars Jan
Oceanfront, South Beach Miami
Build by Solid. For the third Audemars Piguet Art Commission, Los Angeles-based artist Lars Jan, working with guest curator Kathleen Forde, has created “Slow-Moving Luminaries”, an immersive mechanized installation at the Miami Beach oceanfront. “Slow-Moving Luminaries” is an immersive and kinetic large-scale pavilion hosting a labyrinth within. Presented on a site spanning 100 by 50 feet, the work invites viewers to partake in a journey across its upper and lower decks. Standing in stark contrast from one another, the lower deck boasts an extravagant maze of scrim and flora, and the upper deck a shallow, reflective pool of water, through which building models that mimic the surrounding skyline emerge and recede in concert, but at varying speeds throughout the day.
